Alyssa Hersey, Vocal/Music/Acting Instructor
Alyssa’s passion for sharing meaningful experiences with others through the performing arts has been paramount ever since she can remember. Growing up a homeschooled ‘90s kid in Ridgecrest, CA with a love for classical music and classic movies, she dreamed of using her voice as an instrument for emotion and expression, especially in the medium of live theater performance. However, her technical knowledge of the arts started with classical violin lessons at age 11, along with attendance at many a summer music camp with Chamber Music Unbound in Mammoth Lakes, CA and playing with her pianist and flutist brothers in The Kardia Trio, until she switched to voice lessons at age 17.
With high school graduation came a move to Coeur d’Alene, ID and her first forays into actual theatre immersion! Credits from her time there include onstage performances with Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, Spokane Civic Theatre, Stage Left Theatre, Inland Northwest Opera, Aspire Community Theatre, Coeur d’Alene Murder Mystery Theatre, Lake City Playhouse, North Idaho College, and Liberty Lake Community Theatre; serving as a pit violinist for Lake City Playhouse, University High School, Spokane Civic Theatre, and Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre; stepping in as a music director for Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy and Liberty Lake Community Theatre; and working as Business Manager for Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre from January 2017-September 2018. (Absolute favorite role from this time she’d love to reprise someday? Trina in Falsettos.) Deciding to try her hand at throwing violin and voice together, she took up Bluegrass with The Moses Willey Band (appearing on their 2015 album: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/moseswilley) and recorded her own Jazz-Pop album of original songs in 2018 (https://alyssaeve.com/portfolio/2018-recordings/). Various forms of dance training piqued Alyssa’s interest as well and included studying Ballroom with Dancing with the Starrs; Highland Dancing with The Albeni Falls Pipes and Drums Band; and Tap, Jazz, and Ballet with Lorna Hamilton at North Idaho College and Kasey Davis of Davis Arts. She also furthered her vocal studies - Opera, Jazz, Choral, Classical/Contemporary Musical Theatre, etc., - with Dr. Pamela Bathurst at University of Idaho, Max Mendez and Andrea Olsen at North Idaho College, Katherine Lench Meyering, Brandon Michael of Michael Voice Studios, and Jadd Davis of Davis Arts. Now employing her artistic talents in the Greater Seattle area since October 2018, she’s enjoyed working as a Teaching Artist for Drama Kids International of Eastside Seattle and performing most recently with Tacoma Little Theatre (Countess Charlotte in A Little Night Music), Centerstage Theatre (Doris MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie), and The Jewel Box Theatre (Luisa in The Fantasticks). Believing that confidence, preparation, and respect are at the center of successful performing, Alyssa is honored to teach “Preparing the Singer” at LIT and to share those attributes with the current and next generation of artists. |
