Description
The Lighting Designer internship is for individuals seeking practical lighting design experience. The Lighting Designer intern will act as the lighting designer of the 9 summer showcase productions for Lakewood Institute of Theatre (LIT) at Lakewood Playhouse, and will have the opportunity to develop strong lighting design and technical theatre skills.
The lighting design internship requires some previous experience in stage electrics and lighting design. The intern will gain experience in designing, programing, and adjusting for each production. He/She/They are expected to attend all production meetings, designer run-through, paper tech, dry tech, Q2Q, and First Dress Rehearsal of each production. (See schedule on calendar below.) They will create light plots & instruments schedules, hang and focus when necessary, assist tech during specific rehearsals, and possibly become the Light Board Op for performances (only if absolutely necessary).
This internship will give them practical lighting design experience and the opportunity to be mentored by professional lighting designers and technical directors. The Lighting Design Intern will report to our Production Manager and supervised by our Technical Director. The intern will help our Technical Director and Production Manager doing general tech work for a week.
Interns who have completed the summer internship will be eligible for consideration of Lighting Designer for main stage productions at Lakewood Playhouse.

General Requirements
Strong communication skills are necessary; light board programming skills are recommended. General knowledge of theater practices required. Valuable skills include creativity, problem solving, understanding of/adherence to deadlines, and being proactive. The Intern must have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and assertiveness. This is an excellent opportunity for students who wish to pursue Theatrical Lighting Design or Technical Theater.

Academic Requirements
The intern must be currently enrolled, and in good standing in a high school or college-level academic course or program; or have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Documentation that the student is receiving academic credit for the internship must be provided if academic credit is desired.

- June 12th-August 19th
- Average 22 hr. per week.

- Days and start times are mostly non-flexible, end times TBD on each camp's demands.
- No work on Sundays.

- All candidates selected for Internship with LIT are required to participate in Background Check through the State of Washington. LIT pays the fees for these services.
- LIT reserves the right to terminate any internship at any time for any cause. Each intern must sign the LIT Internship Contract, which states that the intern understands the guidelines of the LIT Internship Program and agrees to abide by them.
