Summer Set Designer and Props Master Internship

Description
The Set Design and Props Master internship is for individuals seeking practical Set Design and Props Master experience. The Set Design and Props Master intern will act as the set and props designer for 8 summer showcase productions for Lakewood Institute of Theatre (LIT) at Lakewood Playhouse, and will have the opportunity to develop strong organizational and designing skills. The intern is expected to attend all production meetings and required rehearsals, take notes during rehearsal, track the requests of set and props, create/pull/order set and props, attend tech rehearsals, and assist the Instructor/Director as needed. This will give them practical Set Design and Props Master experience and the opportunity to be mentored by professional Set Design and Prop designers. Interns who have completed the summer internship will be eligible for consideration of Set Design and Props Master for main stage productions at Lakewood Playhouse.

General Requirements
Strong communication skills are necessary. Knowledge of set and prop design a plus. General knowledge of theater practices required. Valuable skills include creativity, problem solving, understanding of/adherence to deadlines, and being proactive. The Intern must have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and assertiveness. This is an excellent opportunity for students who wish to pursue Set Design and Props at the mainstage level and professionally.

Academic Requirements
The intern must be currently enrolled, and in good standing in a high school or college-level academic course or program; or have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Documentation that the student is receiving academic credit for the internship must be provided if academic credit is desired.

Hours & Stipend
- June 12th-August 25th
- Average 24 hr. per week.
- June 12th—16th will be a week to orientate themselves to the set & prop shop/stock, prep for the summer, meet and get to know the other Interns, and general LIT Summer Orientation with the full Faculty/Production Staff (time TBD). Aug. 21st-25th will be the week of final repairing (if needed) and restoring of any remaining sets & props and of the set/prop shop/stock storage. June 19th-Aug. 19th are the 9 productions that will be costumed.

- Days and start times of meetings and rehearsals that must be attended are mostly non-flexible, end times TBD on each camp's demands.
- Some hours are more flexible due to the nature of the position; the pulling and/or creation of props and sets can be done on the Intern’s own schedule as long as deadlines are met.
- No work on Sundays.

- All candidates selected for Internship with LIT are required to participate in Background Check through the State of Washington. LIT pays the fees for these services.
- LIT reserves the right to terminate any internship at any time for any cause. Each intern must sign the LIT Internship Contract, which states that the intern understands the guidelines of the LIT Internship Program and agrees to abide by them.
