Summer Stage Management Internship

Description
The Stage Management internship is for individuals seeking practical stage management experience. The Stage Management intern will act as stage manager for 5 summer showcase productions and technique classes for Lakewood Institute of Theatre (LIT) at Lakewood Playhouse, and will have the opportunity to develop strong organizational and management skills. The intern is expected to attend all production meetings and classes/rehearsals, take notes during rehearsal, track props and costumes, create and send rehearsal/performance reports, assist in administrative duties (i.e. paperwork, communication, etc.), run tech (lights and sound) during rehearsals and performances, and assist the Instructor as needed. This will give them practical stage management experience and the opportunity to be mentored by professional stage managers. One SM track will focus on all the straight plays, plus the teen and adult technique camps, and the multi-generational camp that will be in the evenings. The second SM track will focus on doing all the musicals, plus the advance straight play. Both will help our Technical Director and Production Manager doing tech work for a week. Interns who have completed the summer internship will be eligible for consideration of Stage Management for main stage productions at Lakewood Playhouse.

General Requirements
Strong communication skills are necessary; word processing skills are recommended. General knowledge of theater practices required. Valuable skills include creativity, problem solving, understanding of/adherence to deadlines, and being proactive. The Intern must have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and assertiveness.This is an excellent opportunity for students who wish to pursue Stage Management or Theater Education.

Academic Requirements
The intern must be currently enrolled, and in good standing in a college-level academic course or program; or have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Documentation that the student is receiving academic credit for the internship must be provided if academic credit is desired.

- 9:30a.m-4:30p.m. M-F / Fri. & Sat. evenings and Sat. afternoons every other week
- $1,600.00

- All candidates selected for Internship with LIT are required to participate in Background Check through the State of Washington. LIT pays the fees for these services.
- LIT reserves the right to terminate any internship at any time for any cause. Each intern must sign the LIT Internship Contract, which states that the intern understands the guidelines of the LIT Internship Program and agrees to abide by them.
